The Schechter Wealth Strategies History

The first Schechter family member, Rudy Leitman, joins the New York Life agency located in the National Bank of Detroit building in downtown Detroit.
After 20 years, Rudy Leitman becomes
the #1 New York Life Agent
out of 7,000 agents nationwide.
Robert Schechter begins his career in engineering.

1970 Robert Schechter earns his MBA from the University of Michigan.
Robert Schechter leaves his engineering career to become an entrepreneur. Following in his uncle's footsteps, he joins the New York Life office on Eight Mile Road in Southfield, Michigan.

Robert qualifies in this, his first year, and in every year to date for the Million Dollar Round Table, recognizing him in the top 20% of insurance professionals in the industry
Robert Schechter and Rudy Leitman join forces and move their increasingly successful business to the Southfield Town Center. They begin working with a large number of additional insurance companies in order to best serve their clients' needs.
Robert Schechter and Rudy Leitman invest significantly in administrative staff and office technology, allowing time to focus on the technical and legal aspects of the insurance industry.

Robert earns his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation and becomes a member of the local CLU board.
The Million Dollar Round Table creates "Top of the Table" to recognize the top five percent of insurance professionals in the nation. Robert qualifies this first year and every succeeding year.
Rudy Leitman passes away, leaving behind a tremendous legacy in Detroit and throughout the country.
Robert Schechter & Associates begins acquiring non-traditional professional staff to perform in-depth technical analysis of market products. The first JD and CPA join the firm. Additional managerial and administrative staff supervises the firm's growth and maintains its extremely high level of client service.
Robert Schechter & Associates joins PartnersFinancial, a nationwide group of producers who share ideas and strategies. This alliance provides agents greater leverage with major insurance companies.
Robert Schechter places more insurance with New York Life this year than any other of their 12,000 career agents. Remarkably, Robert achieves this accomplishment even though only a portion of his business was placed with New York Life that year.

Robert's son-in-law Jason Zimmerman, MBA and CLU, joins the firm as Senior Managing Director after spending two years with the New York office of New York Life.

Robert's son Marc Schechter chooses to join the family business. Marc hands over the leadership of the thriving meeting and event planning firm he founded in 1987 to his business partner. Marc retains ownership in his former company.
The Underwriting and Client Service Departments grow, ensuring we continue to meet the needs of our clients.
Schechter Financial Group relocates to downtown Birmingham, Michigan. The move is driven by a desire to provide a first class work environment to attract and retain the best talent in the industry.

Ilana Liss brings her strong research and analytical skills to the Advanced Planning Team.

Schechter Financial Group adopts the name Schechter Wealth Strategies to better reflect the services provided for clients.
The firm announces the addition of Bradley K. Feldman, JD, to its growing list of accomplished staff. Feldman brings significant experience in the evolving Life Insurance Settlement field, and is a sought-after speaker and trade publication author on the subject.

2010 Lee Churchill and CSI Consulting, Inc. merge with Schechter to expand capabilities. This merger provides Schechter with a strong presence and reputation in the Mid-Michigan area.
Jimmy King – University of Michigan, alum and part of UofM Basketball’s famous “Fab Five” joins Schechter as an advisor.

Robert Langer joins Schechter to manage newly opened New York Office and bring Schechter Solutions to the area.
Stephen Blocki joins Schechter as Chief Operating Officer to manage the continued growth of the firm and the day to day operations.

Robert Schechter passes away leaving an incredible legacy as a visionary, mentor, friend and teacher. He led the firm with integrity, passion and creativity. His values of “Clients’ needs first. Always” will live on as the company continues to grow and help families manage their wealth.

January 2, 2014
Bernie Kent, JD, CPA, PFS and John Stein, MBA, CFA, join Schechter Wealth to lead the expansion of the investment advisory team. The move that brings together Schechter’s life insurance and estate planning expertise with Kent and Stein’s investment and tax expertise with PricewaterhouseCoopers. As of January 2, 2014, Schechter Investment Advisors has more than $550 million in assets under advisement.
